I bought a can of a popular brand of Beef Burrito soup. The picture on the label showed a spoonful of soup. It looked pretty good showing corn, black beans, beef, tomato and a few grains of rice. It turned out to be a ton of rice in relation to other ingredients and of course huge amounts of sodium so off I went to make a homemade version. About a 1 ½ cups of my homemade version has 340 calories, 510mg sodium and 19g protein. The canned version for about the same portion has about 45 fewer calories but more than double the sodium at 1185mg which would reflect at about 49% of your DV on the label. PLUS the canned version has less protein and dietary fiber.
